Sleep Dentistry Perth
We understand that visiting the dentist and having treatment done can make you quite nervous, as a way to put you at ease we can offer you IV sedation, commonly referred to as “Sleep Dentistry”. We will arrange for an anaesthetist or dental sedationist to come to our clinic and you will be put to sleep in the dental chair, after your treatment you will wake up with no memory of your procedure. IV sedation is different to a general anaesthetic you would have in a hospital and the recovery time is quicker. This is an extremely pleasant and relaxing way to have dental treatment.
We offer IV sedation for a number of different reasons:
- Wisdom teeth removal.
- Large amount of fillings in one appointment (a good option for children).
- Soft tissue graft/bone graft.
Please note: fees for IV sedation are charged separately from the treatment we provide for you. You will need to pay the anaesthetist on the day of treatment. Medicare rebates are available for a portion of IV sedation charges.
It’s all too common for people to become anxious at the thought of going to the dentist and the prospect of having to undergo a procedure can be too much. To combat this anxiety, a sleep dentist can offer an advanced form of sedation to patients. Sleep dentistry involves the use of a combination of drugs to make sure a patient is fully relaxed and pain free during a procedure.
In the first instance, it’s a good idea to talk through your fears with your dentist as you may be pleasantly surprised as to how straight forward a certain procedure is. However, if you’re still feeling anxious, you can consider sleep dentistry to get you through the process as quickly and painlessly as possible. Sleep dentistry isn’t only for patients with anxiety, it’s also commonly used for individuals with a fear of needles, people with a strong gag reflex, and in cases where multiple or lengthy procedures are necessary.
