It is completely safe to have dental treatment whilst pregnant. Treatment normally avoided when pregnant only when you are unfortunately undergoing a high risk pregnancy. A common misconception is that standard screening x-rays are dangerous to take on pregnant women. This is not the case and these x-rays pose no danger to the mother and unborn baby.

We understand how difficult it can be for you to access dental care. No matter how long it has been since you have had dental treatment, it is never too late to start! We will never judge you, and you will always be treated with the genuine care, enthusiasm and advice of our experienced staff, ensuring that your dental treatment can be updated and your oral hygiene can be improved and maintained.

It is not always necessary to change your amalgam fillings, but in some cases we will recommend that they be changed to white fillings (composite resin). Some reasons you should consider changing your amalgam fillings are:

  • Aesthetics – over time amalgam can make your teeth appear dull, grey and stained
  • A leaking filling and decay around an existing filling
  • Cracks in your filling or tooth surrounding the filling
  • Sensitivity on the filled tooth

Poor oral hygiene can contribute to bad breath; however it is not the only cause. Getting regular dental cleans and ensuring your dental treatment is up-to-date can help prevent bad breath.

Calcium buildup (calculus) on your teeth, food stuck between your teeth and gum disease are all contributing factors to bad breath. Scale and cleans reduce or remove these conditions and improve your overall oral hygiene, which improves your breath.

Decaying teeth can lead to bad breathe. Even though you may not be able to see or feel the tooth decay, it may be what is causing your bad breath! This is why it is important to ensure your dental treatment is up to date. Other possible causes for bad breath are: poor health, poor diet and some medications.

Brushing only cleans 1/3rd of your tooth surfaces, which is why flossing is so important. Flossing helps to dislodge any food between your teeth and reduces plaque build-up. Regular flossing prevents decay and keeps your gums and bone healthy.

The most common decay starts between your teeth, the area which your toothbrush cannot possibly reach. Flossing daily is essential to maintain good oral hygiene.

Missing teeth do not necessarily need to be replaced. However, there are a number of complications which can occur when you lose a tooth.
Some of these complications could be:

  • Difficulty chewing
  • Supra eruption from the opposing tooth
  • Change of angulation as the teeth either side try to fill the space
  • Change of smile appearance
  • Reduced fullness of lips and cheek

If a tooth extraction is unavoidable then we recommend that you replace your missing tooth whenever it is a possible option.

Cosmetic dentistry refers to dental treatments that improve the appearance of your teeth, gums, bite or smile. There are a number of treatment options which can enhance the appearance of your teeth.

Cosmetic dentistry includes:

  • Teeth whitening
  • Veneers
  • Orthodontics including Invisalign
  • Crowns/bridges
  • Implants

As we age, our teeth can become stained and worn. There are multiple ways we can improve your smile for you.
Taking care of your oral hygiene is a huge contribution to keeping a beautiful smile.
If you are unhappy with the appearance of your smile, our cosmetic dentistry options might be what you’re looking for!

The first step is to book a FREE consultation with one of our cosmetic dentists who will examine your smile and teeth and advise you of your best treatment options and costs.

Smoking not only affects your teeth in many ways but also affects your gums and mouth too.

Some of the oral complications worsened by smoking are:

  • Oral cancer
  • Bad breath
  • Gum disease, which can later lead to advanced periodontal and bone disease
  • Staining of teeth

We recommend that you bring your child to the dentist when they get their first teeth. Not only is it important for us to check their teeth but is a great way for your child to become used to visiting us and being in the dental chair.

We usually recommend bringing your children along to your regular exam and clean appointments and then start to examine their teeth from 2years old onwards.

Tooth enamel is a defence system to help protect our teeth against cavities and tooth decay. However, bacteria can eat away the enamel. We recommend regular fluoride treatments to help restore your enamel and reverse the beginning of decay. Fluoride treatment can also help children develop strong, healthy teeth for years to come.

If you are experiencing severe pain, facial swelling, abscess or oral infection call a dentist as soon as possible. Don’t wait for the pain to get worse before you take action. Call us as soon as the onset of pain begins.Phone us on 08 9322 5340. It is usually easier and less expensive to treat a tooth-ache when it first starts, so don’t put it off or put up with the pain.

If it is after hours, or you are feeling lightheaded, nauseous, or generally feel unwell, contact your nearest GP or hospital.

We are open 6 days a week so we can always schedule your dental appointments to fit in with your FIFO roster. In order to ensure you have a reserved spot to fit in with your schedule we can book your appointments a few weeks in advance to ensure that spot is reserved for you.

The most important difference between an electric toothbrush and a manual toothbrush is the technique in which it cleans our teeth. An electronic toothbrush may work well for you if you struggle to maintain the right oral hygiene and brush the correct way which your dentist has shown you.

X-rays are a very important part of your dental examination. As skilled as our dentists are they are unable to see between your back teeth to check decay and the condition of your current fillings. These x-rays should be updated every 2 years to ensure your teeth are as healthy as they can be.
The radiation from dental x-rays is extremely minimal so there is no need to worry about being exposed to radiation.
